Whoever said you can’t buy love never visited the Idaho Humane Society animal shelter. Take it from an experienced love-buyer: As I’m writing this article, a 90-pound beast of questionable heritage sits at my feet poised to lavish me with kisses and high-fives at the slightest provocation. Larry, the aforementioned bundle of affection, is our third adoptee from the Idaho Humane Society.
The Idaho Humane Society (IHS) is the largest and oldest animal welfare organization and veterinary charity in the state. Its mission is to advocate for the welfare and responsible care of animals, protect them from neglect and cruelty, and promote humane awareness and compassion. In addition to sheltering, feeding, treating medically, and finding adoptive homes for abandoned and abused animals, the IHS works to educate Idahoans about the proper care of their own pets with a variety of programs including classes and camps.
The IHS welcomes every animal in need. It rescues, rehabilitates and finds new homes for more animals each year than any other shelter or organization in Idaho. But more keep coming—an average of about 41 every day. You can help the IHS help animals in our community, not only by adopting a new best friend, but also by becoming a volunteer or by donating any of the items on the IHS wishlist below (here is just a sampling of items IHS could use):
- Puppy & kitten food (canned & dry)
