The Zoo's newest exhibit, the African Plains, offers families a chance to see animals never seen before in Boise, and to experience the culture and customs of a country half way around the world.
The exhibit, which just opened in October, includes an African village, and two major exhibit areas for lions, giraffes, and zebras. Three smaller areas within the new 4.5-acre exhibit are home to lemurs, rock hyrax, weaver birds, and more.
Enhancing the extraordinary opportunity to see these animals is the exhibit's East African Village. The Village includes a schoolroom, ranger station, open-air market, and an East African house. Here, children can be introduced to the traditions, economics, and arts of East Africa.
Zoo Boise is home to more than 200 animals from 80 different species. The African Plains exhibit is located on the south side of the grounds, completing the Zoo's plan and creation of three specific geographic areas, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
