November 2009 - Warhawk Air Museum Print

Planning a family day trip doesn’t mean you have to travel far to experience something new, to get away, to feel when you’ve returned home that maybe you’ve traveled to another place in time without having left the Treasure Valley.

That’s why a day trip to a museum makes for a perfect family day trip. It’s a chance to see exhibits ranging from historical to scientific, artistic, and more. Going back in time, reliving history, it all comes alive at the Warhawk Air Museum.

Created to teach and preserve the memory of World War II from "the home front to the war front," the Warhawk Air Museum also focuses on the history of aviation from the first flight to the space age. See and learn about life during wartime for the men and women in uniform, observe technological advances and the effects on our society, and gain a renewed sense of patriotic pride.

Families can take self-guided tours, enjoying the Museum at their own pace, or request a docent tour in advance. Schools can also arrange for age-appropriate guided tours that include related classroom activities for 3rd to 12th grade students.

In November, the Air Museum hosts an extra special event, their annual pancake breakfast, part of their Veterans Day celebration. Veterans Day was established in the United States in honor of veterans of the armed services and in commemoration of the armistice that ended World War I in 1918. In 1954 the November 11 day of observance was renamed Veterans Day from its original Armistice Day.

Kids love to see the airplanes at Warhawk Air Museum, and reliving the history makes this day trip a memorable experience.
