If you’re looking for a fun and energetic outing for your whole family to enjoy this holiday season and winter, sharpen your skates and go ice-skating!

        Grab your gloves and your favorite sweater or fleece pullover and head to southeast Boise and to Idaho IceWorld for an afternoon of fun. This indoor family ice skating center has two NHL-regulation size ice rinks and offers adult and youth hockey leagues, figure skating programs, ice skating lessons, and public skate sessions.  Idaho IceWorld has a Learn-to-Skate program and also offers Family Nights each Wednesday.  And when your kids’ feet get tired or the Zamboni comes out to smooth the ice, take a break at the center’s arcade, and grab some food at the eateries.

        And don’t miss getting tickets to Idaho IceWorld’s “Holiday Festival on Ice,” presented on Saturday, December 19, with shows at 3pm and 6pm. Skaters from the Boise Figure Skating Club and the Learn to Skate program as well as nationally-ranked competitors will perform on the ice. Ssshhhh, Santa is coming too!

        If you’re heading out of town, enjoy the snow and winter activities and go ice skating in McCall and Sun Valley. In the center of downtown McCall is the Manchester Ice & Event Centre, which offers year-round open and recreational skating for all ages and levels. Don’t worry if you forgot your skates, skate rentals are available, as well as skating lessons, hockey leagues, broom ball, and more on this NHL-sized hockey rink.

        The Sun Valley Ice Rink offers outdoor skating year-round, and is open from 10am–8pm (winter hours). It’s located adjacent to the Sun Valley Lodge. Lessons are available from ice skating professionals, and a second indoor ice rink offers ice hockey and freestyle open sessions as well. Look for their summer 2010 Sun Valley Ice Show schedule, featuring former Olympians and world champions performing under the “tent” and under the stars.

        So sharpen your blades, have family fun on the ice, and get energized for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games this February!
