New Life Program
You’ve heard of adopting a child, adopting a dog, even adopting a highway. But adopting an apartment? Yep, now you can do that, too, through the Boise Rescue Mission.
The Rescue Mission offers a substance abuse recovery program, called the New Life Program (NLP), to chemically dependent/alcoholic men and women. It’s in a supportive, drug-free environment so that they may begin to develop and implement long-range recovery plans. NLP participants have little to no income when they enter the program. Many of the women who enroll in NLP have fled situations of domestic violence and, upon entry into the program, do not have the financial means to independently support themselves or their children.
The Christian-based program lasts from one to two years, depending on the needs of each program member, and offers life-skills training, education, employment preparedness, vocational training, and job placement services. The program provides participants the opportunity to become sober, responsible, contributing members of the community.
You can help graduates of the New Life Program get on their feet by making a transitional apartment into a home. With some basic household items, you can give a graduate a home that feels welcoming and inviting, something they can be proud to take care of as they start their new lives!
Want to help? Here’s a wish list:
• Towels
• Sheets (mostly twin size)
• General hygiene products (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, etc.)
• Vacuum cleaner to be shared by several residents
• Basic cleaning supplies (sponge, toilet brush, gloves, Ajax, all-purpose cleaner, etc.)
• A gift basket can be very meaningful (a card with encouraging words, snack items,
popcorn, gift card for a local grocery store, etc.)
