Years ago, I gave my grandmother a photo of a blue-haired, bespectacled, sweatsuit-and-tennis-shoe-wearing “seasoned citizen” jogging through a park with the words, “Old Age Ain’t for Sissies” printed across the top. At the Boise Senior Activities Center, you’ll find a lot of folks who, like my grandmother, ascribe to that philosophy.
On any given day, seniors from throughout the community gather at the Center for computer classes, dancing, exercise classes, Bingo, noon meals, health screenings, refresher courses for driving, and billiards and Pinochle. Some get together to knit, crochet, quilt, and do other crafts, while others man the Center’s Craft Boutique and Grandma’s Treasures Thrift Store to help raise money for activities and programs. You won’t find too many sissies here.
The Senior Activities Center is located at 690 Robbins Road in Boise. There are lots of opportunities to volunteer at the Center—from front desk receptionists and dining room assistants to bulk mailing preparers and game and activities assistants.
